This 8 week group offers direct hands-on coaching to skillfully reinforce important social skills and behavior required for daily living. Our group focuses on the critical elements needed for having successful experiences when interacting with family, managing the classroom, working in vocational settings and operating in the community. The group objective is to teach skills that promote conversational exchanges, eye contact, appropriate body language, self-advocating, mental flexibility, (i.e., turn taking, wait time, compromise, working with a partner and interacting in a small group) and bully management. All activities are interactive where students are strategically positioned to work, engage and communicate with one another through simulated home, classroom, vocational and community themes and situations. This group is in our Tier II for social skills and behavior.
Age: Middle, High School and Young Adults
Primary area of focus: Direct hands-on coaching to apply and reinforce necessary social skills and behavior for building friendships, interacting in a classroom, vocational and preparing for community interactions.
Prerequisite Skills: Ambulatory, independent with bathroom skills, communication, reading and writing at the single word/phrase level. Able to sit and focus on activities for 20 minutes.
Group Highlights:
-Direct hands-on coaching with your child. -Focused lessons on how to interact with a partner and in a small group. -Lessons surround fun activities like cooking, games and art.
-End of quarter student drive “Parent Night” where social skills and group/partner work can be observed.
