Language, Artic and Behavior Strategies that Work for the Autism Population and More
Language, Artic and Behavior Strategies that Work for the Autism Population. Standard Rate $199.00, Early Bird Rate $179.00
(This course is offered for.6 ASHA CEUs, Intermediate level, Professional area)

This hands-on, active seminar will teach you how to group 3 strategies in an S.O.S. mnemonic, positioning your students to be successful toward articulation and language goals as well as managing behaviors for the school age population. S.O.S. has a unique teaching model. The motto S.O.S. D.O.E.S.” the Job gives you the structure to teach strategies. First you will ( D )efine the language in each strategy. Then students will ( O )wn them with reinforcing activities. What makes this program unique is that students learn how to ( E )valuate what happens when they use or don't use their strategies. Finally, students will ( S )tart applying the strategies in the classroom and real life settings. The S.O.S . program stops a student from always being prompted to “D.O.” a desired skill to one who “D.O.E.S.” skills more independently.

  • Research states that students learn better with strategies and mnemonics.
  • The “DOES” model offers a kinesthetic learning style which is proven effective for students with disabilities.
  • Caseload management is easier as grouped students work from their S.O.S. strategies and teaching comes from the “ DOES ” model.
  • Specific strategies to use in any tier of RtI
  • “Make-And-Take” time for strategy and progress monitoring development.

Learning Outcomes

As a result of this program, participants will demonstrate the ability to:

  • Apply 3 goal-directed strategies in a mnemonic to meet all speech, language, behavioral and cognitive needs for school age students.
  • Integrate strategy programs that meet core curriculum state standards.
  • Explain how strategy training offers an immediate intervention in any tier of RtI, is evidence based and can be easily progress monitored.
  • Explain how the frequency of sessions and size of caseload can be reduced.
  • Combine students with different skill levels to improve caseload management.

Intended for: Speech-language pathologists, Assistants and Special education teachers
